An MJO performance that converges Chicago's finest creative jazz minds, bridging heritage and modern innovation.

The first half of the concert pays tribute to the timeless artistry of Billie Holiday, featuring selections from the ensemble's acclaimed Delmark Records album, "It's Too Hot for Words."

Following intermission, Dee Alexander's originality takes center stage, showcasing her captivating artistry, expressive voice, and boundless creativity. The program will include the premiere of a new composition, 'Hilltop,' written by "Light" Henry Huff, a multi-instrumentalist and composer who was a mentor to Alexander. The performance of 'Hilltop' features an arrangement by MJO's own John Kornegay.

Both halves of the show will feature MJO’s dynamic original arrangements that take advantage of the unique instrumental configuration of the jazz octet.
